Scena Theatre presents The Beckett Trio featuring Nanna Ingvarssontwo-time Helen Hayes Award winner, on March 19 at the Atlas Performing Arts Center on H St. NE

Washington, DC, March 8, 2017 — The Directors of Scena Theatre are thrilled to announce The Beckett Trio, directed by Robert McNamara. This production of three short plays by Samuel Beckett opens on Monday, March 19 at 8:00 pm. Members of the Washington Press: please RSVP to ScenaMedia@gmail.com to reserve your seat for Opening Night or another performance.

The Beckett Trio is comprised of three short, yet potent plays (Footfalls, Not I, and Rockaby) about the stories and struggles of women performed by DC’s Nanna Ingvarsson—two-time Helen Hayes Award® winner. All three plays are written by the master of minimalism—Ireland’s great playwright and Nobel Laureate, Samuel Beckett. Footfalls depicts a troubled lass who perpetually paces a worn floor, re-imagining her life. Not I is a riveting theatre experience that reduces one woman's life to an obsessional monologue. And, Rockaby is a haunting recollection of one woman’s losses, loves and life told from a rocking chair.

Artistic Director Robert McNamara always enjoys producing the works of Irish playwrights during the Saint Patrick's Day season. This year, however, he has chosen some of the more obscure works of Beckett, which center on the female voice and mind: "For inquisitive theatre-goers, this will be a cerebral feast. We are portraying the life stories and struggles of three of Beckett's heroines in a fresh and compelling way. And, of course, Nanna will bring her remarkable talents and nuanced complexity to these roles."
